Fans offered chance to play Red Wings Alumni at Thunder Ice Arena

Hockey fans will have the opportunity to play against former members of the Detroit Red Wings and other National Hockey League alumni during the Red Wings Legends game being held at Trine University on Sept. 17.

The game, beginning in the Thunder Ice Arena at 2 p.m., is a fundraiser for the Thunder Hockey Association, which oversees youth hockey programs at Trine. It will be the first played in the new arena.

For a $400 donation, fans of all skill levels will not only get the opportunity to face off against the former professionals, they will receive a commemorative Trine University hockey sweater with their choice of number (given on a first-come, first-served basis). There also will be the chance to meet the Red Wings Alumni players and enjoy beverages and refreshments before and during the game.

The opportunity is open to men and women 18 years of age and older.

The Detroit Red Wings were founded in 1926 as the Detroit Cougars, part of the NHL’s Original Six teams. They became the Detroit Red Wings in 1932 and have won the most Stanley Cups of any NHL franchise in the United States.

Tickets for the game are $12 and will be on sale at
